The short version
- Your money data stays on your iPhone. Zunova has no accounts, no database and no copy of your data.
- Zunova is read-only. It cannot move money, make payments or open credit.
- No ads, no selling or sharing data, no tracking, no analytics.
What Zunova uses
Numbers you type in (balances, cards and their optional last 4 digits, bills, paydays) are stored on your phone. Like other app settings, they are included in your own encrypted iPhone backups (iCloud or your computer), which only you can unlock. Zunova never receives them.
Widget. If you add the Zunova widget, it can show today's safe-to-spend number on your Home or Lock Screen. When Face ID lock is on, the widget hides the number until you unlock the app.
Connected banks. If you choose to connect a bank or credit card, Zunova uses Plaid. You sign in on Plaid's own screen; Zunova never sees your bank username or password. Plaid sends account balances, card payment details and recent transactions. These pass through a small Zunova relay server that adds Zunova's Plaid credentials and forwards the request. The relay does not store, log or read your data. The data is saved only on your phone, in a file that is encrypted and unreadable while your phone is locked, and is not included in backups. The key for each bank connection is kept in your phone's Keychain on that device only. Bills you confirm from a connected bank become part of your typed-in numbers, so they stay until you remove them, including after you disconnect.
Mood check-ins stay on your phone and never affect your score.
Your choices
Disconnect a bank any time in Zunova (Accounts, swipe left). That ends the connection at Plaid and deletes that bank's balances and history from your phone. If Zunova can't reach Plaid at that moment it tells you, and you can end the connection at my.plaid.com. You can also manage connections at my.plaid.com.
Deleting the app. Deleting Zunova removes the money data the app stored on your phone, but it does not end a bank connection, and the connection key can stay in your phone's Keychain. To end a connection, disconnect in Zunova before you delete the app, or do it at my.plaid.com. Copies in your own past iPhone backups last until those backups are removed.
